Transforming an antisocial SSSI – Gordon Miller Award

  • Satwells Nature Reserve Saltwells Lane Dudley, England, DY2 0AP United Kingdom (map)

DESCRIPTION

The day will explore how we slowly changed an urban antisocial hotspot and failing geological Site of Special Scientific Interest into a thriving beauty spot loved by the local community.

We will explain about how we engaged with a wide variety of community and corporate volunteers, secured external funding and strengthened working relationships with Natural England. Also we will discuss the impact that winning the CMA Gordon Miller Award has had for us.

The day will start with a guided tour along our geological trail with its nationally important geology and industrial heritage. Part of this passes through our bluebell carpeted ancient woodland, which hopefully will be in full glory on the day (Mother Nature willing).

We will stop for lunch and continue discussions at Saltwells Inn.

Tea and coffee will be available. Please bring your own packed lunch or join us for a pub lunch.
