Our Mission

Characterised by our professional yet personal approach to customer service, Terrafirma’s mission is to change perceptions and increase awareness by leading the way in delivering due-diligence solutions to UK environmental risks. As part of an ongoing nationwide education programme we aim to broaden knowledge of environmental issues in the UK, part of which is nurturing talent from the UK’s young geo- and environmental science community and working with regulatory bodies to influence the development of industry understanding and standards.

Chris Milne    Technical Director   Chris is a renowned mining engineer and has worked on several high-profile projects across the UK. Chris has been involved on projects relating to various types of mining-related ground stability and subsequent remediation. Chris is the co-founder of Ground Stiffness Surveys (GSS), an innovative ground investigation company who are specialist contractors, developers and researchers in Advanced Continuous Surface Wave (ACSW) non-intrusive ground profiling technologies.  Within Terrafirma Chris acts as technical lead by supporting the professional development of the team, assisting the development of existing products and promoting new geotechnical applications.

Danny Powell-Thomas    Operations Director   As one of the Terrafirma’s founding members, Danny now holds responsibility for, and oversees company operations, roles and development.  Danny graduated from Bristol with a first-class masters’ degree in Environmental Geoscience, with Terrafirma co-supervising his thesis on evaluating desk-based mining risk assessments. Maura Partridge    Head of Searches   Maura graduated with a degree in Geology from the University of Bristol in 2016 and soon after joined the Terrafirma team.  As Head of Searches at Terrafirma, Maura is responsible for the day to day production of searches and ensuring industry standard quality assurance. Working towards her Chartership, she is keen to further her geological knowledge and learn new skills related to her field.

As Head of Searches at Terrafirma, Maura is responsible for the day to day production of searches and ensuring industry standard quality assurance. Working towards her Chartership, she is keen to further her geological knowledge and learn new skills related to her field.

Rachael Hodge    Senior Commercial Manager   Rachael joined Terrafirma in August 2018 and as Senior Commercial Manager, is responsible for sales, account management and marketing.  With 7 years of experience in the property industry, Rachael translates a broad range of complex environmental issues into understandable subjects to educate the public and our clients about the risks the ground poses.

Robin Morris    Head of Software Development   Robin joined Terrafirma as an External Software and Data consultant in January 2018 alongside his degree in Computer Science at the University of East Anglia. Upon graduating in July 2018, Robin joined the team as Head of Software. Theodore Faull    Head of GIS and Data   A GIS professional with seven years’ experience working in various sectors including oil and gas exploration and social housing. Theo leads the GIS and Data division of Terrafirma, incorporating innovative geospatial data into our products and systems whilst managing external data and technical partnerships. A GIS professional with seven years’ experience working in various sectors including oil and gas exploration and social housing. Theo leads the GIS and Data division of Terrafirma, incorporating innovative geospatial data into our products and systems whilst managing external data and technical partnerships.

Victoria Stinchcombe    Marketing Coordinator   Vicky joined Terrafirma in 2019 as the Marketing Coordinator overseeing Design and Marketing. Ed graduated with a first-class degree in Geography and Environmental Management in 2011 and has worked on research projects focused on renewable energy, water abstraction and environmental impacts.

He established himself in the world of consumer publishing, working for both BBC Music and BBC Countryfile Magazine's in commercially focused roles before joining Terrafirma in 2019.

As Business Development Manager, Ed heads up market research and development of new Terrafirma products and services by applying innovative solutions to managing environmental risk.

Evy Hughes    Geologist   Evy graduated with a first-class degree in Geology with Petroleum Geology from the University of Aberdeen.  After graduating Evy worked as a sales administrator before joining Terrafirma in 2019.  Evy has joined the operations team in the position of Geologist, responsible for carrying out daily property ground risk reports, delivering client quality assured risk assessments while also working towards her Chartership to progress and broaden her skills.

After graduating Evy worked as a sales administrator before joining Terrafirma in 2019.

Robert Waggett    Software Developer   Rob recently graduated from Plymouth University with a first-class degree in Computing. As part of his degree he completed a placement year working for the NHS as a Database Developer.  Rob was part of the team that developed a Data Warehouse and successfully completed several clinical system migrations through software that the team developed. Terrafirma Advisory Panel provide ongoing guidance and counsel to the business and its clients, with particular focus on educating property market stakeholders to environmental hazards and property risks, and the provision of innovative solutions.

"The Panel comprises professionals and academics at the cutting edge of environmental and ground hazard solutions in the UK’s built-environment, legal and insurance sectors. The panel will also provide consultancy and guidance to the Terrafirma team including the identification of ground instability hazards, site investigations, emerging technologies and the impact of such environmental hazards in the conveyancing and legal markets." He was formerly a partner in various law firms prior to joining a public body as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary where he heads the legal, governance and operational risk teams. He was Chairman of DEFRA’s Contaminated Land National Expert Panel and was appointed by the Minister of State to Chair the Advisory Council of UK Export Finance (ECGD). He is joint editor of the Law Society’s Environmental Law Handbook, author of the environmental chapter in their Conveyancing Handbook and sits on their Planning and Environmental Law policy committee. He is a former Chair of the UK Environmental Law Association.

Mark Hudson   Mark is a respected mining and land surveyor and began his career in the Coal Board, involved on many high-profile projects such as the Channel Tunnel construction. Recently, Mark founded his company Geoterra, an innovative sub-surface investigation and remediation company, with a focus on the use and development of cutting-edge surveying technology.
